As the afterschool program has expanded, first with 200 children at PS 9 fifteen years ago to over 900 children at PS 9, 166, and 84 today, we’ve seen the need for additional space “off site” where we would be able to program activities during times when the school spaces are not available. To this end, we’ve added “88th Street” to the program and we’d welcome your suggestions on how best to utilize it to serve the community!

Bigs and Littles Arts and Athletics enrichment classes from ages 6 months to 4 years old during the morning! As our program continues to grow we thought this would be the perfect way to give back to the community for all their unconditional support. Not only are these classes fun and exciting but participating in enrichment classes benefit your child’s emotional, social, and physical growth while forming and strengthening an everlasting bond with your child.

Bigs and Littles Music and Language Class:  Let’s wiggle together; our integration of music into our language classes targets the social, emotional, and physical development of your child. Our music classes for kids offer an experience that is filled with interactive musical activities, drumming, dancing, foreign language, instrument play, puppets, dramatic play, and music & movement. Scientific research shows that learning a foreign language comes naturally for children when they start at an early age. Children naturally absorb their new language through music, visual prompts, and teacher-child interaction. We currently offer Spanish, Mandarin, and French language classes.

Bookworm: Children will explore one book every week. Our classes expose children to age appropriate literature which comes to life through hands-on art, music, poetry and movement activities related to the book. Early literacy skills will be developed by reading books written by both new and familiar authors.

Let’s Wiggle!: Come on and get moving with us! S-T-R-E-T-C-H, WIGGLE, and MOVE! Get your body moving through movement, music, and yoga. Our games and creative play are designed to strengthen the core muscles, balance, coordination, and motor planning skills.

Open Play: In open play, children will have the opportunity to explore and learn through socialization and free play. Bigs and Little swill have the chance to meet, play, and have fun!

First Steps Martial Arts: While Sensei does translate to instructor and or teacher, in Karate-Do (The Way or Path) we serve more as a guide to the destination (a better you). Parents already play this role just without our formal training methods, uniforms, and black belts. In our class we’ll be using a Pink Belt instead of a Black belt in order to symbolize that strength comes within regardless of what we look like or wear. So, let’s address that with this class. Let’s pass on self-development methods that both parents and children can use now and later on in life. The goal is for them to implement these methods I teach without my guidance.

Mini Yoga: Mini Yoga is a playgroup setting full of itsy-bitsy poses, movement games, songs, story-telling, and breathing, along with lots of laughter and joy! The class will give them a chance to learn about their bodies, stimulate their senses and have fun exploring creative poses with repetition in songs and games
