As the afterschool program has expanded, first with 200 children at PS 9 fifteen years ago to over 900 children at PS 9, 166, and 84 today, we’ve seen the need for additional space “off site” where we would be able to program activities during times when the school spaces are not available. To this end, we’ve added “88th Street” to the program and we’d welcome your suggestions on how best to utilize it to serve the community!
Bigs and Littles Arts and Athletics enrichment classes from ages 6 months to 4 years old during the morning! As our program continues to grow we thought this would be the perfect way to give back to the community for all their unconditional support. Not only are these classes fun and exciting but participating in enrichment classes benefit your child’s emotional, social, and physical growth while forming and strengthening an everlasting bond with your child.
Bigs and Littles Music and Language Class: Let’s wiggle together; our integration of music into our language classes target the social, emotional and physical development of your child. Our music classes for kids offer an experience that is filled with interactive musical activities, drumming, dancing, foreign language, instrument play, puppets, dramatic play and music & movement. Scientific research shows that learning a foreign language comes naturally for children when they start at an early age. Children naturally absorb their new language through music, visual prompts and teacher-child interaction
Bookworm: Children will explore one book every week. Our classes expose children to age appropriate literature which comes to life through hands-on art, music, poetry and movement activities related to the book. Early literacy skills will be developed by reading books written by both new and familiar authors.
Classes begin Tuesday July 30th, 2019
Tuesday and Thursday classes beginning at 10 AM!
Drop-Ins are Welcomed!

The space at 88th Street is ideal for dance, music, yoga, as well as all sorts of workshops for children and adults. It is located at the southeast corner of 88th and Columbus, directly across Columbus Avenue from Bella Luna restaurant. The space consists of one larger room for dance and yoga and such and a smaller room for music lessons and sound recording.
Over the past several weeks, we started to schedule activities to try out the space. Last weekend we held an extra rehearsal for the PS 166 Lion King production. Jeff Edmond has conducted jazz and tap dance classes on weekend mornings, Laura Vandemark is scheduling yoga classes to take place before school on weekdays, and over our recent spring break, our chess coaches Mr. Marquez and Miguel Garcia conducted a chess camp as players prepared for nationals.
Broadly speaking, we intend to utilize the space for a number of different types of activities, including:
–Yoga and movement classes for parents and their pre-school age children during the day
— Open level vinyasa flow yoga for adults on weekday mornings
–Dance classes in jazz, tap, ballet, and hiphop
–End-of-cycle recitals for instrumental music students
–Recording music and podcasts in our acoustic room
–Running groups for adults can meet there for evening and weekend runs in the park
–Middle school and high school students can enroll in workshops to help with school applications
To manage all of these additional programs, we have implemented a registration system from “MINDBODY” which many of you may already be familiar with. MINDBODYonline.com provides a popular back-end registration system for many yoga and dances studios throughout New York and actually all around the country. You can visit the site and look at various offerings by filling out the registration form below.
