Pre-K Offerings

The Pre-K Afterschool Programs at PS 9 and PS 452

Our Pre-K Program allows children to participate in fun, developmentally appropriate activities that will complement and enhance their school experience. Children solve puzzles, make crafts, conduct science experiments, and much more, all while fostering new friendships and strengthening their social skills.

The Pre-K curriculum is designed by the highly trained staff at Arts and Athletics and closely overseen by our early-childhood specialists. It focuses on a variety of different themes and topics like Arts and Literacy, Math, Science, Creative Arts, Music, and Movement. Educators also make time for essential activities like free play and socialization which, in turn, imbue preschoolers with confidence, independence, and communicative abilities. All classes take place in a safe and supervised environment.

Throughout every lesson, a special emphasis is placed upon language—the key to so many abilities for young children—covering various aspects of the field, including listening, speaking, reading, vocabulary building, and, above all, a lifelong interest in other cultures.

All Arts and Athletics’ afterschool programs operates under a School Age Childcare (SACC) license from the New York State Department of Health. While these programs typically serve children in kindergarten through fifth grade, the DoH allows SACC programs to apply for a waiver to serve younger children as well. With a large number of Pre-K students at our PS 452 site-many of whom have older siblings that participate in our K-5 programs—we jumped at the opportunity. Over the summer of 2023 we were granted a waiver for PS 9 and are very excited to grow our pre-k ‘upstarts’ program.

Both our Pre-K program and our K-5 program offer children an array of enjoyable and enriching experiences. Each day, our team provides preschoolers with necessary exposure to physical activity, art and music, various languages, and a friendly community.

Learn more about the program by emailing us directly at info@artsandathletics.org.  You can also read some of the weekly newsletters that we have sent to parents by clicking the orange and yellow link at the bottom of the page.

** Children must be 4yrs old by the first day of after-school, all children must also be fully potty-trained, able to speak up for their needs. We’ve deliberately set these age requirements because we want to promote the safety, health, and happiness of our children.
